Celebrating talented women in Manchester, Galchester is a magazine and directory connecting creative northern gals.

Let’s hear it for a new Mancunian way – one that reclaims Manchester for the next generation of womxn.

Sick of the city’s blokey identity and the London-centric nature of the UK creative industry?

We champion the Mancunian women who’ve been working tirelessly under the radar, giving them the platform to inspire and the opportunity to get more work. Manchester has an extremely male identity, from the Hacienda and Sean Ryder, football through to Liam Gallagher, but the city has an incredible (and largely overlooked) suffragette and women-led history.

We turn the spotlight on the true “worker bees” of Manchester and give insight into women’s careers in the arts.

The worker bee is the emblem of Manchester, proudly covering the city from bollards to buildings. But did you know that all worker bees are female? They also should not be able to fly (aerodynamically speaking) but they do.

They defy the laws of nature in the same way women have defied male convention.

If you can’t see it, you can’t be it. And you’re about to see a lot of women doing cool shit. Galchester will become the ultimate black book of talented women creatives born or based in the fastest growing creative city outside London.
